| RAILCOM - ELECTRONIC |
BETWEEN FINNISH AND
STATUS - on-going
The Finnish Railways (VR) launched its first EDI project as early as in 1990. Since then the company has been busy expanding the EDI connections towards all major clients, covering more than half of all waybills.
With the increasing volume of international trade and transportation transactions, it has been obvious that electronic messaging should also be implemented with international interest parties. In the first phase, such an interest party was Russian Railways. Since late 1990´electronic waybill technologies have been used in co-operation with the Russian Railways, covering now 100% of all waybills.
The project regarding exchange of the waybill information started by agreement on the implementation guideline and it was decided to use the implementation guideline approved by the Finnish user community. The final objective of the RailCom project is that all waybills exchanged between the Finnish and Russian railways will be in electronic format.
- Starting from the end of the year 2002 all waybill information from Finland to Russia was sent in electronic format.
- At the same time a waybill message transmission testing from Russia to Finland was started.
- The message transmission between RZD (Russian Railways) and VR (Finnish Railways) is in full use.
- Current activity is to expand the waybill information to contain correct full-size "electronic" waybill meeting also the demands from Russian Customa. Full-size electronic waybill transmitted to Russian Customs could be used in Customs procedures at the railway border crossing stations. This phase of the project is called RailCom Expansion.
