BALTIC TANGENT RUSSIA

Strategic focus was on the development of the BT concept to the transnational Russian aspect and extension to the Far East and China.
 
The border region Pskov – Estonia – Latvia is today of extreme importance to the respective national authorities. More over its location towards Rail Baltica, transport infrastructure connecting Riga and the Baltic Sea ports in Ventspils, Liepaja and Klaipeda, as well as the links connecting southern Estonia with the extension to Tallinn was paid attention into.
 
The project concretised the Russian link of the Baltic Tangent concept. The integration of the Russian partners to the Baltic Tangent project, that started 2005, was of great importance for the completion of the Baltic Tangent economic corridor.
 
The programme of socio-economic development of the Pskov region emphasized the importance of transnational cooperation, transport infrastructure development, usage of favourable economic border location and opportunities of transport corridors of the region.

The overall objective of the Pskov component was to facilitate the economic growth and the Pskov region development by improving transport infrastructure.
 
Specific objectives were:
1. identifying regional framework conditions for the BT infrastructure development;
2. complementing the international BT concept by local Pskov region input;
3. including BT Pskov region concept into the Pskov region Transport Infrastructure Development Programme.
