9th EURORUSSIA Comission meeting was held in St.Petersburg

The high-level EuroRussia Commission gathered for the 9th time in St.Petersburg. The meeting was held on May, 31st at the Consulate General of Finland in St.Petersburg. Consul General of Finland, Mr. Juhani Väänänen greeted the participants of the meeting.

Chairperson of the EuroRussia Commission, Director of the State Regulatory Department for Foreign Trade and Customs Department of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation, Mr. Aleksey Kaulbars opened the 9th EuroRussia Commission. 

Deputy Chairperson of the EuroRussia Commission, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Finland, Mr. Juhani Korpela noted in his opening speech that the Finnish side is very satisfied with the results achieved so far within the EuroRussia programme. He also underlined the importance of active participation of Sweden in the realisation of the EuroRussia programme. Multilateral co-operation guarantees successful results and provides new possibilities and resources for the participants of the development programme.

Director-General for Trade of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Mr. Anders Ahnlid was accepted as a new member of the EuroRussia Commission. He thanked for the opportunity to participate the Commission meeting. Mr. Ahnlid conciders the EuroRussia Programme very valuable for it contributes the companies, which are planning to invest into Russia. He promised to promote the EuroRussia Programme among the Swedish companies. 

The Commission noted that the EuroRussia Programme is proceeding according to the approved strategy. The company investments have been fulfilled splendidly and further plans are under work. The representatives of the EuroRussia member companies presented the current situation of the company investments and related development needs.

Mr. Kaulbars informed the Commission about the administrative reform of the customs authorities in Russia, customs clearance in the country of departure, procedure to receive permission for the "Green Corridor" and procedure on reducing the customs duties in Russia.

Chief of the Customs Control Department of the Northwest Customs Administration, Mr. Alexander Getman told about the proceedings concerning simplified customs clearance.

Secretary General Mr. Pertti Saari reviewed the situation with the development of EuroRussia subcontracting and R&D and EuroRussia Parks/Technparks. The special economic zones under preparation and development of the SME networks were also discussed during the meeting.

The next EuroRussia Programme Commission Meeting was agreed to be held in St. Petersburg in November 2005.
