The aim was to envision development in the field of logistics in the Baltic Sea region over the next 5–15 years with particular attention on ICT and data interchange relating to logistics. The development proposals arising from the work will be used as guidelines when putting into practice the TEDIM programme’s Riga Strategy completed in 2003, and in developing new projects. Three experts with wide-ranging experience in logistics and business each wrote their own vision of the development opportunities of logistics in the Baltic Sea region.

This study was set out to identify the main bottlenecks and development needs in logistics information exchange between the EU and Russia. For this purpose interviews were conducted with 39 import and export companies and logistics service providers in Finland, the Netherlands and Russia. In addition, a workshop was organised for the Finnish companies interviewed, and information meetings were held in Helsinki and Moscow. On the basis of the results both short-term and long-term development needs are identified and recommendations issued for the improvement of logistics information management in EU-Russian trade.
